Chibi Events (aka Mini Events) is the smaller of our two key event rooms.  Here you’ll find anime screenings, fan panels, and the occasional game show.  Please note that (like all conventions) the schedule is subject to change.  Any changes will be posted at the convention.


10:45 AM, Sailor Moon Crystal (Episodes 1-3) – CHIBI EVENTS
TV-PG. Dubbed. Based on Naoko Takeuchi’s legendary manga series, Sailor Moon Crystal retells the story of Sailor Moon as she searches for her fellow Sailor Guardians and the Legendary Silver Crystal to stop the dark forces of Queen Beryl.

12:00 PM, Evangelion’s Symbolism: You Can(not) Reference – CHIBI EVENTS
Neon Genesis Evangelion is considered one of the most influential anime of all time. Join the panelists from NoS Anime as they look into some of the major religious references that Evangelion utilizes for its imagery. They look at the historical connections, original Hebrew names, etc. in a secular setting to see how well (or poorly?) Eva’s creators, Gainax, selected their references.

1:00 PM, Anime Death Match! – CHIBI EVENTS
Who would win when your favorite anime heroes and villains are pitted against each other in a fight to the death? Come choose your side as we present different fight scenarios, and defend your favorite characters and give their opponents a verbal smackdown of logic and reasoning!

2:00 PM, Explore the World of Anime Music with Wendi Shi – CHIBI EVENTS
Meet Wendi Shi, a New Age musician who composes anime and fantasy-themed music. Her albums “Autumn” and “Songs from Distant Lands” are available in over 95 countries. As an Eastern girl raised in a Western world, Wendi incorporates cultural elements from over the world in her music and art. She finds inspirations from many things in life and recreates them musically.

3:00 PM, We Love (Asian) Drama! – CHIBI EVENTS
You know that Japan doesn’t only make cartoons, right? Sometimes they have real people instead of animated people in their shows about high school. The Ass Backwards Anime Podcast is here to show you some of the best (in our opinion) live-action dramas Japan has to offer. Even though we are an anime podcast, we love drama.

4:00 PM, Hanayamata (Episodes 1-2) – CHIBI EVENTS
TV-14. Created in Kochi in 1954, Yosakoi incorporates modern music and classic Japanese dance into a unique fusion performed in teams. However, while Yosakoi has become a growing phenomenon with huge festivals held across Japan, it’s never been more than a blip on high school student Naru Sekia’s cultural radar. Not that much has ever really grabbed Naru’s attention. She’s average in grades, average in sports and in art… really, the only thing that has ever caught her fancy is reading fairy tales. Until the day she encounters her own personal “fairy”: Hana, an American exchange student who is determined to start a Yosakoi dancing club at their school.

6:00 PM, Asia Trend Presents: Gateway to Japanese Language – CHIBI EVENTS
Join Izumi Sakurada, director of the Y.E.S.S. Center in Orlando and owner of Japanese Lesson 34747, for this basic introduction to the Japanese language. Walk away with a rudimentary understanding of the differences between English and Japanese language structure, and learn where you can get involved with more local classes!

7:00 PM, One Piece Film Z (Movie) – CHIBI EVENTS
TV-14. Dubbed. Get ready for latest, full-length feature film in the on-going, pirate epic, One Piece. Said to be comparable to the Ancient Weapons of old, the Marines’ trump card, the “Dyna Stones,” have suddenly been stolen by a group of renegade vigilantes. The terrifyingly powerful man responsible, former Marine Admiral “Z”, now stands in the path of Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates. Can the Straw Hats defeat “Z” and his crew, or will the New World meet its end at the hands of this mad man?

9:00 PM How to: Japanese Onsen – CHIBI EVENTS
Onsen, Japanese bath houses, are a unique part of Japanese culture. It’s seen in anime all the time, but how much can you expect real onsen to be like anime? The hosts of the AAAPodcast discuss what it’s like to be a foreigner in an onsen and how to properly enjoy the baths.

Prizes, costumes, and (of course) wolves galore. If you’re looking for more detail beyond that in this description, you obviously missed the point of the title.


10:00 AM, Magic User’s Club (Episodes 1-2) – CHIBI EVENTS
TV-14. The Magic User’s Club is a group of five well-meaning misfits who do more than card tricks – they can use actual magic. And with that magic, they managed to defeat a giant ship from outer space! But their close encounter left an enormous cherry blossom tree right in the middle of the city. It’s so big that it blocks out the sun!

11:00 AM, Yoga for Cosplayers – CHIBI EVENTS
Show up in comfortable clothes (not in costume) and enjoy a yoga session designed with cosplayers in mind! Stretch your muscles and get centered before jumping into a full day of Florida Anime Experience in your favorite costume. NOTE: A waiver will be provided and must be signed before participating. If you are under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must also sign the form.

12:00 PM, Traveling to Japan for $3,500 or Less – CHIBI EVENTS
Having an epic anime-filled time in Japan doesn’t need to be expensive. For $3,500 (or less) the hosts of the AAAPodcast break down how you can have an amazing trip and travel across Japan to see all the sights.

1:00 PM, Got Gundam? What to Watch in this Expansive Franchise – CHIBI EVENTS
Whether you’ve been watching Gundam since the seventies – or you’ve just now heard of it, this panel is for you! Join the panelists from NoS Anime as they take a look at the different Gundam series and offer viewing suggestions for all. This is a great opportunity to learn about (or learn more about!) this pivotal franchise that has influenced that anime mech genre for decades.

Heard of Gintama? No? Yeah, that makes sense. Well, the anime just ended (again) so now is a great a time as any to learn what this series is about. The Ass Backwards Anime Podcast is here to tell you why this show about clearly insane people is worth your time. Come and see why this hidden gem from the Shonen Jump catalog is not just one series, it’s every series.

In 1994, Steve attended his first US convention–Katsucon 1. Since then, Steve has been a guest at dozens HUNDREDS of anime conventions all across the United States. Join him for an hour of stories about his over two decades on the anime convention circuit.

As any well versed anime fan will tell you, Neon Genesis Evangelion (and the subsequent movies) are ubiquitous with religious symbolism – specifically Christianity and old Hebrew. Student Ministry and LifeGroups pastor Tony Talavera from Sanctuary Church presents this discussion about Angels and Evas and how Hideaki Anno and his team managed to infuse one of the greatest anime of all time with meaning and symbolism from one of the largest religions in the world.

You’re an anime expert and it’s time to show your friends. Multiple rounds with all kinds of anime trivia, lots of players, and prizes. So what if the prizes are gently used? This is more about showing your anime dominance! Brought to you by the anime-obsessed hosts at the AAAPodcast.

1:00 PM, One Piece: The Halfway Point – CHIBI EVENTS
One Piece seems to be that series that may never have an end in sight. Now, after nearly two decades, we are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Many people use the opportunity to teach English in Japan as a way to live in the land of the rising sun.
