Florida Anime Experience MechHere are a number of questions we get asked about our convention.  If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, feel free to email us at contact@floridaanime.com.

1. WHAT IS FLORIDA ANIME EXPERIENCE?
Florida Anime Experience is a three day pop culture convention celebrating anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture.  The annual spring event started in 2011.  It begins on Friday morning and ends Sunday evening.

2. WHY ANOTHER ANIME CONVENTION IN FLORIDA?
In 2010, we (the convention organizers) noticed that anime conventions have been trending away from anime.  The goal of FAE is not necessarily to be the largest, but we do want it to be the most focused on the fandom.  Florida Anime Experience isn’t about “comics and anime” or “steampunk and anime”… it’s about the creativity and cultural influence of anime, manga and the culture of Japan.

3. CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN TO THE CONVENTION?
Yes!  While we do host 18+ events in the evening (clearly marked with an I.D. checkpoint) – Florida Anime Experience is designed to be a “family friendly” event with panels, presentations, and workshops geared towards a variety interests and ages.  We recommended parents read the descriptions of all programming (in the con guide or on the website) for details.

4. DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO BUY A TICKET, TOO?
Children ages 3 and under get in for free (with a paid adult admission).

5. CAN NON-PAID ATTENDEES SHOW UP AND JUST ROAM THE HALLWAYS (AREA OUTSIDE OF EVENT ROOMS?)
Florida Anime Experience is actually designed to operate more like a theme park than many fan conventions… so ask yourself: does Walt Disney World or Universal Studios just let you hang out in the park if you haven’t paid to get in (even if you don’t intend to ride the rides?) The answer is no: you must have a ticket for admission.  In short, “ghosting” at our convention is not permitted.

6. HOW MUCH DO GUESTS CHARGE FOR AUTOGRAPHS?
All Florida Anime Experience celebrity guests sign up to two (2) items provided by attendees free of charge.  On occasion, some guests may sell items (prints, etc.) to sign.

7. I PURCHASED MY TICKET IN ADVANCE, BUT I CAN NO LONGER ATTEND/NO LONGER CARE TO ATTEND.  CAN I GET A REFUND?
Green Mustard Entertainment, like other companies that run fan conventions, calculates event budgets and creates scheduled entertainment based on advance ticket sales. As a result, we cannot (under any circumstance) offer refunds once a ticket has been purchased. That said, you CAN update your advance ticket’s name and information before online pre-registration ends.

8. WILL I BE ABLE TO PLAY HALO IN THE FLORIDA ANIME EXPERIENCE GAME ROOM?
No.  While we love a good fragfest as much as the next guy (or girl!), Halo (all versions) for the XBox 360 is not a Japanese game. (See Question #1.)

9. DOES MY FAVORITE ANIME SUCK?
Most likely yes… well, at least according to Joey Snackpants.
