FAQ

As we get questions regarding the Florida Anime Experience, we will post them here.  Can’t find an answer?  Email us atinfo@floridaanime.com.

1. WHY ANOTHER ANIME CONVENTION IN FLORIDA?
In the past few years, we (the convention organizers) have noticed that anime conventions have been trending away fromanime.  The goal of FAE isn’t to be the largest, but we do want it to be the most focused on the fandom.  The Florida Anime Experience isn’t about “comics and anime” or “steampunk and anime”… it’s about the creativity and cultural influence ofanime, manga and Japanese pop culture.

2. CAN NON-PAID ATTENDEES SHOW UP AND JUST ROAM THE HALLWAYS (AREA OUTSIDE OF EVENT ROOMS?)
The Florida Anime Experience is actually designed to operate more like a theme park than many fan conventions… so ask yourself: does Walt Disney World or Universal Studios just let you hang out in the park if you haven’t paid to get in (even if you don’t intend to ride the rides?) The answer is no: admission into the event must be paid to get in. All that aside, hanging out at a convention *without* paying admission actually hurts the event’s success! Renting space, bringing in guests, paying for advertising: all of these things cost money. You should support your local conventions not just “freeload” off their generosity!

3. IS THE FLORIDA ANIME EXPERIENCE THE NEW JACON?
No.  If it were, we’d have called it something clever like “NEO-JACON” or “JACON TWO: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO.”  When JACON ended in 2009, a number of staff stepped away from doing fan conventions.  Other former staff have started various new projects with some of them working on The Florida Anime Experience.  Even other former staff have begun a new multi-genre event called PariahCon.

4. IS THE FLORIDA ANIME EXPERIENCE THE NEW ANIME SUPERCON?
No.  The events and elements of South Florida’s Anime Supercon have been merged into Florida Supercon – making FSC one of the largest multi-genre events in the state!

5. WILL I BE ABLE TO PLAY HALO IN THE FLORIDA ANIME EXPERIENCE GAME ROOM?
No.  While we love a good fragfest as much as the next guy (or girl!), Halo (all versions) for the XBox 360 is not a Japanese game. (See Question #1.)

6. DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO BUY A TICKET, TOO?
Children ages 3 and under get in for free (with a paid adult admission.)

7. HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE ARE THE FIRST FLORIDA ANIME EXPERIENCE (2011)?
940 unique attendees.

8. DOES MY FAVORITE ANIME SUCK?
Most likely yes… well, at least according to Joey Snackpants.
